Privacy Policy

This is the TroyLabs Privacy Policy. TroyLabs is a student-run organization at the University of Southern California (it is not operated by the University), and its texts and emails are sent by TroyLabs leadership. TroyLabs is the University of Southern California's student startup accelerator. This policy covers usctroylabs.com and the TL Alumni Network (the members' directory at usctroylabs.com/alumni-portal), including TroyLabs text messages. Questions: troylabs@usc.edu.

What we collect

• What you enter on your profile: name, email addresses, phone number, graduation year, when you joined TroyLabs, divisions, city, LinkedIn link, bio, photo, startups and interests.
• Your work history and education from your public LinkedIn profile, imported after leadership approves you.
• Your choices about TroyLabs emails and texts, with when they changed, so we can honor them.
• Counts of how the site is used (page views, clicks, searches). These are totals, not tied to you.

How we use it

• To run the member directory, so TroyLabs members and alumni can find and contact each other.
• To send TroyLabs emails and texts about events and club news, only to members who turned them on.
• To review and approve new members.

Who can see it

Your profile, including your contact details, is visible to approved TroyLabs members and to TroyLabs leadership. It is not public. Your phone number appears only as contact information in that members-only directory; whether you get TroyLabs texts is never shown or shared. We do not sell your information.

We use service providers to run the site. They process data only to provide their service to us and never use it for marketing: Supabase (database and sign-in), Resend (email), Twilio (text messages), Vercel (hosting and page-view counts), PostHog (usage counts), Apify (reading public LinkedIn profiles) and OpenAI (search by meaning; only work details are sent, never names, emails or phone numbers).

Text messages (SMS)

TroyLabs texts you only if you tick "Text me TroyLabs event invitations" (optional, not required to join) on your sign-up form or profile. You can turn texts off on your profile at any time. We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or messaging consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. TroyLabs texts are event invitations and club announcements, a few messages a month at most (message frequency varies). Message and data rates may apply. Mobile phone numbers and text opt-in data are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing. Reply STOP to any text to stop them; reply HELP for help. Your choices

You can edit or remove your information on your profile at any time, and turn TroyLabs emails or texts off there. To delete your account, email troylabs@usc.edu.
